Refunds & Returns

If you are not happy with your purchase, we are here to help. This page explains how returns, refunds and cancellations work when you buy from Modern Light Company.
Your rights under the law come first
For most goods bought online, the Consumer Rights Act 2022 gives you 14 days after receiving the goods to tell us that you are cancelling. You then have a further 14 days to return them. Statutory exceptions can apply, including certain personalised goods and sealed goods that cannot be returned for health or hygiene reasons.
Changing your mind
You do not need to give a reason when you use the statutory online cancellation right. Tell us in writing within 14 days after delivery.
A change-of-mind return covers reasons like these:
- You changed your mind.
- You found a better price.
- The item does not fit your space.
- You no longer need it.
- You ordered the wrong item.
What we need for a change-of-mind return
- You contact us within 14 days of delivery and return the item within the following 14 days.
- The item is unused and in its original packaging.
- You have the receipt, order confirmation or other proof of purchase from this website.
We cannot accept returns of items bought from other retailers. A change-of-mind return that does not meet these conditions will not be accepted. None of this affects your rights when an item is faulty, damaged or not as described.
Postage and refunds on a change of mind
You pay the return postage. Please use a tracked shipping service and send the item back to the warehouse your order was sent from. We will give you the address.
You can choose an exchange or a refund. Where the statutory cancellation right applies, the refund includes the basic outbound delivery cost; any supplement for express delivery is not refunded. We may deduct for diminished value caused by handling beyond what is needed to inspect the goods.
Faulty or damaged items
If an item arrives faulty, damaged, not as described or with parts missing, please tell us straight away. We will put it right at no cost to you, with a repair, a replacement or a refund as the law requires. We pay the return postage.
We may ask for your order number and photos of the item and its packaging. Photos help us sort things out quickly and take the matter up with the courier.
Wrong item sent
If you receive something different from what you ordered, please tell us straight away. We will send the right item or give you a refund, and we pay the cost of returning the wrong one.
Order not received
If your order does not arrive, please tell us straight away. We will look into it with the courier and send a replacement or give you a full refund, including any delivery charge you paid.
How to start a return
Email theteam@modernlight.irish with your order number and a short note about the problem or your reason for returning the item. Please contact us before you send anything back, so the return is matched to your order. We aim to reply within one business day.
For a change-of-mind return, send us the tracking details once the parcel is on its way.
Refunds
We refund without undue delay and within the period required by law. We may wait until the goods are returned or you provide evidence that they were sent. The refund goes back to your original payment method, such as your card or PayPal account.
Your bank or payment provider may take a few more business days to show the refund on your statement.
Cancelling an order
You can cancel any order free of charge before it is dispatched. Orders are usually packed within 24 to 48 hours, so please contact us as soon as you can, ideally within 12 hours of ordering.
Once an order has been dispatched, contact us in writing if you wish to use the statutory online cancellation right, then follow the return instructions above.
